Racing to the Finish: My Story by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

I have been a huge fan of Nascar for a while now. It runs in my family and my Dad was a very devoted fan of Dale Earnhardt so I knew who Dale Earnhardt Jr was long before he wrote a book about who he was. In Racing to the Finish: My Story, Dale Earnhardt Jr shows the readers that he might just be more than what he showed us on the track and in media inquiries.

Earnhardt Jr shares the "hidden" part of this life in this wonderful read. Yes, we get to see some of the life of a celebrity when we are watching the races or the media interviews, but behind each one of those drivers is a human being that still faces the same difficulties and issues that we face. They just have a harder time keeping things private.

The reader will get a behind the scenes look at the life of Earhardt Jr. and have a front row seat to how he felt about some of the things that he had to deal with in his life. What I found interesting is the fact that this book reads like a diary and not a normal chapter book. All of the entries are dated and told from his perspective so during your time reading it you feel like you are taking a secret peak into a diary that you would love to read. The perspective and format are everything in this book.

As for what Earnhardt writes, some of what's in the book his fans might know, but there was so much that was new and information that I would have never guessed. It's a quick, fast read and one that is quite informative, especially if you are a fan of him or his dad. I enjoyed reading it and will now pass it along to my Dad since he was a fan of both Earnhardts, right up to the very end of Jr's retirement, and possibly to this day.
